About Safety Harbor Pier
Safety Harbor Pier is a public fishing pier that extends from the shoreline into the upper reaches of Tampa Bay, giving anglers access to the bay's inshore species without a boat. Sheepshead lead the winter season from January through March, when bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, oysters, or sand fleas tight to the pilings produces steady action. Spotted Seatrout peak in March–April and again in October–November, and Spanish Mackerel run during March–May and September–October, when casting silver spoons, small jigs, or gotcha plugs intercepts fast-moving schools. Common Snook arrive in force from April through June, followed by Gray Snapper from May through August, and both respond to live bait such as live pilchards, live pinfish, and live shrimp worked around the pier structure. Red Drum close out the year with a peak from August through October, when live bait fishing with live shrimp, pilchards, or cut ladyfish connects with fish moving along the pier.
