About Tampa Bay Hump
Tampa Bay Hump is a rocky pinnacle off Tampa, Florida, rising from 40 to 80 feet of water in an exposed outer section of the Tampa Bay region. Gray snapper hold on the rock from May through August, and sheepshead work the same structure from January through March. Red drum peak from August to October, common snook from April to June, and spotted seatrout in March–April and again in October–November. Spanish mackerel peak from March through May and September through October, and casting silver spoons and small jigs over the hump targets them. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pinfish, or fiddler crabs covers the rock for snapper and sheepshead, while chumming with live scaled sardines draws gray snapper up off the pinnacle.
