About Weedon Island Preserve Fishing Pier
Weedon Island Preserve Fishing Pier extends over the shallow mangrove-lined waters of Old Tampa Bay on the St. Petersburg side of the Tampa Bay region, giving shore-based anglers access to grass flats and pier structure. Spotted seatrout peak in March–April and again in October–November, when drifting the surrounding grass flats with soft plastic jerkbaits or paddle tail soft plastics on jigheads produces steady action. Common snook move in from April through June, and red drum follow from August through October, with live bait fishing using live pilchards, live pinfish, or live shrimp as the dominant approach for both. Sheepshead hold tight to the pier pilings from January through March and respond to bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, or sand fleas. Gray snapper fill the summer months from May through August, while Spanish mackerel run through the area in March–May and September–October, when casting silver spoons, small jigs, or gotcha plugs intercepts passing schools.
