Goat Island sits off Brookings, Oregon, marking an outer-exposed drop-off where the bottom falls through depths of 50 to 100 feet. The structure holds Chinook and Coho Salmon from May through October, while Pacific Halibut moves in from April through August and Rockfish stack up April through September. Lingcod fishing peaks in the colder window of January through March, with anglers working the drop-off edges using metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs. Salmon come to trolling along the exposed contours with cut-plug herring, whole herring, trolling spoons, and flashers with hoochies, while halibut respond to drift fishing herring, squid, salmon bellies, and octopus across the deeper stretches. Rockfish and the resident Cabezon take metal jigs and leadhead jigs bounced along the same rocky drop-off that defines the spot.
