STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Outer Exposed

Rainbow Island sits off Brookings, Oregon, where a rock drop-off on the outer exposed coast falls from 330 to 1,310 feet. Chinook and Coho Salmon run strongest from May through October, taken by trolling cut-plug herring, whole herring, spoons, and flashers with hoochies over the deeper water. Pacific Halibut hold along the bottom structure with peak fishing from April through August, where drift fishing herring, squid, salmon bellies, or octopus works the slope. Lingcod concentrate on the rock from January through March, responding to jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, while Black Rockfish stack up from May through August on the same structure. The steep gradient and exposed position push anglers to work jigs and drifts tight to the rock across the full depth range.
