White Rock sits off Brookings, Oregon, an outer-exposed rocky drop-off where the bottom falls from 330 to 1310 feet. Pacific halibut hold here through their April to August peak, taken by drift fishing herring, squid, salmon bellies, or octopus over the deeper edges, while lingcod concentrate January to March and respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs along the rock. Aggregate rockfish, including canary and yellowtail, run strong from April to September and come to jigs and plastic grubs worked close to structure. Chinook and coho salmon move through from May to October and take trolled cut-plug herring, spoons, flashers, and hoochies in the water column above the drop. The steep rock face and exposed position keep bait and fish stacked along the depth transition, making the change in bottom the key to working this spot.
