Cape Arago sits off Charleston, Oregon, where a rocky drop-off falls away through outer, exposed water into depths of 260 to 660 feet. Chinook and Coho Salmon move through from June to September, while Pacific Halibut runs from May to September and Black Rockfish holds over the structure across the same summer stretch. Lingcod fishing peaks in the colder months from December through March, and Cabezon comes on from November into January over the rock. Salmon anglers work the drop-off by trolling cut-plug herring, whole herring, spoons, and hoochies, with mooching a supporting option for both species. Over the deeper rock, jigging metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits covers Lingcod, rockfish, and Cabezon, while drift fishing herring, squid, and octopus targets halibut across the broad depth range.
