Qochyax Island sits off Charleston, Oregon, as an outer-exposed rocky drop-off falling through depths of 330 to 1,310 feet. The steep rock structure holds Chinook and Coho Salmon that peak from June through September, alongside Black Rockfish in the same summer window and Blue Rockfish from April into August. Lingcod concentrate here in the colder months, peaking from January through March and again in December, while Pacific Halibut move onto the deeper ground from May through September. Salmon respond to trolling with cut-plug herring, whole herring, spoons, and hoochies over the exposed edge, with mooching a workable alternative on cut-plug or whole herring. Rockfish and Lingcod come to jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits worked close to the rock, and halibut take drift-fished herring, squid, octopus, or salmon bellies along the drop.
