STRUCTURE

Outer Exposed

Nehalem Bank is an outer-exposed sand flat off Garibaldi, Oregon, where the bottom runs from 150 to 300 feet. The flat holds Pacific Halibut through its March to August peak, along with sablefish, Pacific cod, English sole, and Lingcod that turn on across February and March. Chinook Salmon move through from June to September and Coho from June to October, giving the bank a summer salmon window layered over its year-round bottomfish. Halibut come to drift fishing over the sand with herring, salmon belly, octopus, or squid, while jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits works the same depths for Lingcod. Chinook respond to trolling whole herring, anchovies, spoons, and flashers, and the same trolling approach with spoons and hoochies covers Coho when they show.
