About Leaning Rock

Leaning Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Gold Beach, Oregon, where the bottom falls through a range of 20 to 120 feet. Pacific Halibut moves through from March to August, while Lingcod holds over the structure with a peak in January and February, and Chinook Salmon runs July through September alongside Coho from June into October. Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Sablefish also work the rock and its edges. Anglers drift herring, salmon bellies, or squid across the slope for halibut and jig metal jigs or swimbaits tight to the rock for lingcod. For salmon, trolling cut-plug herring, whole anchovy, and flashers covers the water column, with mooching whole or cut-plug herring a productive alternative over the deeper edges of the drop-off.
