About Yellow Rock

Yellow Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Gold Beach, Oregon, where the bottom falls through 45 to 75 feet of water. Chinook Salmon peak here from July through September and Coho Salmon run from June into October, both taken by trolling cut-plug herring, whole anchovy, trolling spoons, and flashers, or by mooching whole and cut-plug herring across the structure. Pacific Halibut hold from March through August and respond to drift fishing with herring, salmon bellies, squid, and leadhead jigs along the sloping rock. Lingcod concentrate in the winter months of January and February, when jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs works the drop-off, with live greenling or rockfish as a supporting approach. Rockfish, including Copper and Canary, along with Sablefish, round out the mix over this rock bottom.
