Tongue Point / Salt Creek sits on the outer-exposed coast west of Port Angeles, Washington, where a rocky, kelp-covered reef drops through depths of 15 to 60 feet. The structure holds lingcod, which peak from January through April, alongside resident black rockfish over the same broken bottom. Chinook salmon move through from June to August and coho from June into September, giving the reef a strong summer salmon season. Anglers work the rock and kelp for lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or fish live greenling, herring, and squid close to the bottom. For salmon, trolling whole herring, spoons, flashers, and hootchies covers the exposed water, while mooching cut-plug herring and jigging metal jigs work the same depths.
