Keystone Spit is a sand flat off Port Townsend, Washington, sitting in DFO subarea 9 with mid-level exposure and depths running 5 to 20 feet. The flat draws Chinook Salmon from June through August and Coho Salmon from June through September, while Pacific Halibut hold from March into July and Lingcod peak from March through May. Anglers work the shallow sand for Chinook by mooching cut-plug or whole herring, and cover water for Coho by trolling flashers, hoochies, and trolling spoons. Over the same bottom, drift jigging with metal jigs or leadhead jigs with swimbaits takes Halibut, and jigging metal jigs and swimbaits produces Lingcod. Dungeness Crab peaks from March through August here, taken in crab pots baited with fish carcasses, clams, or squid.
