Days Island sits in the inner protected waters off Tacoma, Washington, within DFO subarea 13, where a mixed-bottom drop-off falls through depths of 30 to 150 feet. The structure holds a strong lingcod fishery from March through June and Pacific halibut from March into August, while black rockfish stay catchable across the full year. Salmon move through on a seasonal schedule, with Chinook peaking June through September and coho running July into October. Anglers work the drop-off with jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits for lingcod and rockfish, and drift jigging with herring or squid for halibut along the deeper edges. For salmon, trolling flashers, spoons, hoochies, and cut-plug herring covers the water columns as fish transit the protected shoreline.
