Fox Point sits within Tacoma's inner protected waters in DFO subarea 13, a drop-off marking a transition over mixed bottom at depths of 80 to 200 feet. Chinook Salmon move through from June to September and Coho follow from July to October, both taken by trolling cut-plug herring, flashers, spoons, and hoochies along the edge, with mooching a productive alternative. Lingcod hold on the structure with a March to June peak, and drift jigging metal jigs or leadhead jigs with swimbaits works the deeper contours. Pacific Halibut are present from March through August, reached with drift jigging leadhead jigs and herring across the mixed bottom. Black Rockfish stay catchable year-round on the drop-off, responding to jigs, swimbaits, and bait fished tight to the structure.
