Eagle Island sits in the protected inner waters near Tacoma, Washington, within DFO subarea 13, where a rocky drop-off falls from roughly 30 to 150 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon through their June to September peak and Coho Salmon from July into October, with anglers working the edge by trolling cut-plug herring, flashers, and trolling spoons, or mooching whole herring along the slope. Lingcod peak from March through June over the same rock, taken by jigging metal jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits close to the bottom. Black Rockfish hold on the reef year-round and respond to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits, while Pacific Halibut move through from March to August and come to drift jigging with leadhead jigs and herring. The mix of rock bottom and inner-protected exposure keeps the drop-off fishable across a broad depth band throughout the season.
