Point Heyer is a mid-exposure drop-off off Tacoma in DFO subarea 11, where mixed bottom falls away through depths of roughly 260 to 660 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon peaking June through September and Coho Salmon peaking July through October, both worked primarily by trolling cut-plug herring, flashers, trolling spoons, and hoochies along the edge. Lingcod concentrate on the mixed bottom from March through June and respond to jigging with metal jigs and leadhead jigs rigged with swimbaits, while Pacific Halibut hold from March through August and take drift-jigged leadhead jigs tipped with plastic swimbaits, herring, or squid. Black Rockfish stay catchable year-round across this ground, hitting metal jigs and swimbaits fished tight to the drop. The steep grade and mixed substrate make depth control central, with anglers adjusting presentations across the water column as tide moves fish along the slope.
