About April Point Hump

April Point Hump is a rock pinnacle in DFO subarea 13-5 off Campbell River, rising through mid-exposure water where depths run 260 to 660 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak in May and June and again from August into September, alongside a deep-water rockfish community that includes Darkblotched, Rougheye, and Shortraker Rockfish plus Pacific Cod. Chinook Salmon move through from June to August, while Coho hold from May into September. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, and bucktail jigs worked over the rock, with bait fishing on whole herring, live greenling, or octopus as a supporting approach. Salmon are targeted higher in the column, with trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies for both Chinook and Coho over the pinnacle.
