Vigilant Islets is an outer-exposed rock pinnacle off Campbell River, British Columbia, rising through 40 to 120 feet of water where current-swept structure concentrates fish. Pacific Halibut hold along the deeper flanks from April through September, while Lingcod work the rock through May and June and again from August into September. Black Rockfish stack over the pinnacle from May to September, and Chinook Salmon move through from June to August alongside Coho, which peak from May through September. Anglers drift metal or leadhead jigs and swimbaits over the pinnacle for halibut and lingcod, or fish whole herring and octopus on the bottom when the drift slows. For salmon, trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies covers the surrounding water, with mooching cut-plug herring an effective alternative on softer tides.
