May Island sits off Campbell River in British Columbia, marking a mixed-bottom drop-off that falls through 120 to 240 feet at mid-exposure. The structure holds Pacific Halibut from April through September and Lingcod through the May–June and August–September windows, with Chinook Salmon peaking June through August and Coho running May into September. Anglers work the deeper edges of the drop-off with drift jigging for halibut, using leadhead jigs, swimbaits, or metal jigs, and switch to whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid on bait when the drift slows. Lingcod come to metal jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits along the same structure, while Chinook and Coho respond to trolling spoons, hootchies, and herring through the water column above the ledge. The mix of rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Sablefish across the depth range rounds out the bottom fishery here.
