About Spoil Rock

Spoil Rock is a rocky pinnacle rising through 10 to 60 feet of water in DFO subarea 13-3, off Campbell River, British Columbia, with mid-level exposure that keeps current moving across the structure. Chinook Salmon peak here from June through August and Coho Salmon hold from May through September, with trolling spoons, hootchies, and cut-plug herring covering the water above the pinnacle. The rock and its adjacent depths hold Lingcod, best from May to June and again from August to September, along with Black Rockfish through the summer months. Metal jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits worked close to the pinnacle reach both the Lingcod and the rockfish that stack against the structure. Copper and Quillback Rockfish and Kelp Greenling round out the resident fish along the same rocky bottom.
