About Gowlland Island

Gowlland Island is a rock pinnacle in DFO subarea 13-3 off Campbell River, British Columbia, rising through mid-exposure water across depths of 10 to 60 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak in May–June and again in August–September, alongside Black Rockfish that stay active May through September and resident Quillback Rockfish. Chinook Salmon move through from June to August, with Coho Salmon following the same May–September window, and Pacific Cod round out the bottom species. Anglers work the rock with metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, or bucktail jigs for Lingcod, while trolling spoons and hootchies cover the salmon passing over the pinnacle. Jigging metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits along the rock edges takes Black Rockfish holding tight to the structure.
