About Hoskyn Rock Hump

Hoskyn Rock Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising in outer, exposed water off Campbell River, sitting in DFO subarea 13-13 with depths running from 40 to 120 feet. The structure holds lingcod, which peak from May through June and again from August into September, alongside a mix of rockfish including rougheye, silvergray, and darkblotched, plus Pacific cod and sablefish along the deeper edges. Chinook salmon move through the area from June to August. Anglers work the pinnacle for lingcod with metal jigs, leadhead jigs and swimbaits, or bucktail jigs dropped onto the rock, and supplement with whole herring, live greenling, or octopus when bait fishing the structure. For Chinook, trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies over the hump covers the summer window, while mooching cut-plug or whole herring works the same water.
