About Read Point Hump

Read Point Hump is an outer-exposed rock pinnacle in DFO subarea 13-13 off Campbell River, rising through 40 to 120 feet of water. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from May through June and again from August into September, alongside Chinook Salmon that move through between June and August. Rougheye and Shortraker Rockfish, Sablefish, and Pacific Cod round out the resident bottom fishery over the rock. Lingcod respond to jigging the pinnacle with metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, or bucktail jigs, with whole herring, live greenling, or octopus worked as bait along the structure. Chinook are taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies across the exposed edges, or by mooching cut-plug herring near the drop.
