The Read Point Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising off the outer, exposed waters near Campbell River, with fishable depths running from about 40 to 120 feet. The structure holds a strong lingcod population that peaks in May and June and again from August into September, while Pacific Halibut work the surrounding bottom through the extended April to September window. Chinook Salmon move over and around the pinnacle from June through August, and the site also supports Rougheye and Shortraker Rockfish, Sablefish, and Pacific Cod. Lingcod come to jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, or bucktail jigs, with whole herring, live greenling, or octopus on bait as a supporting approach. Halibut are targeted by drift jigging leadhead jigs, swimbaits, and metal jigs across the deeper rock, while Chinook respond to trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies over the same high-relief ground.
