About Orange Point

Orange Point is an outer-exposed rock drop-off in DFO subarea 13-3 off Campbell River, British Columbia, where the bottom falls away through depths of 15 to 120 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon at their peak from June through August and Coho Salmon from May into September, with trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies working the water column along the edge. Lingcod concentrate on the rock through May and June and again from August into September, taken by jigging metal jigs or leadhead jigs with swimbaits close to the bottom. Black Rockfish hold over the same structure from May through September and respond to jigs and soft plastic swimbaits, while Canary, Copper, Quillback Rockfish and Pacific Cod share the reef. The steep gradient lets anglers cover shallow and deep zones over a short distance, following fish as they move along the drop-off.
