About Race Point Hump

Race Point Hump is a rocky pinnacle in DFO subarea 13-3 off Campbell River, rising from an outer, exposed stretch of water where depths run 260 to 660 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from May through June and again from August into September, alongside a mix of Canary, Copper, Quillback, and China Rockfish that stick close to the rock. Chinook Salmon move through the area with a peak from June through August. Anglers work the pinnacle for Lingcod by jigging metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, or bucktail jigs, and back that up with bait fishing whole herring, live greenling, or octopus over the structure. For Chinook, trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies covers the water, while mooching cut-plug or whole herring works the same current lines around the hump.
