Tyee Spit sits off Campbell River on British Columbia's outer coast, an exposed drop-off over mixed bottom where depths fall from roughly 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon move through in strength from June to August, overlapping with Coho Salmon that peak from May into September, while Pacific Halibut hold along the deeper structure from April through September. Trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies covers the salmon along the edge of the drop, and mooching cut-plug herring works the same water when fish sit shallower. Halibut come from the deeper mixed bottom on drift jigging with leadhead jigs, swimbaits, and metal jigs, or on whole herring and octopus fished on bait. Lingcod fill in over the structure from May to June and again from August to September, taking metal jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits.
