About Tyee Spit

Tyee Spit is an outer-exposed drop-off off Campbell River in DFO subarea 13-5, where a mixed bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here through the summer with a June-to-August peak, while Coho Salmon run the longer May-to-September window and Lingcod come on in May and June and again from August into September. Trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies along the edge covers both salmon, and mooching cut-plug herring works the same water when fish sit deeper. Lingcod respond to metal jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits worked over the drop-off structure, with whole herring or octopus on the bottom as a follow-up. The spot also holds Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Green Sturgeon over its varied terrain.
