About Maple Bay Hump

Maple Bay Hump is an outer-exposed rock pinnacle in DFO subarea 14-13 off Comox, British Columbia, rising through depths of 60 to 235 feet. The structure holds resident Lingcod, which peak from January through March and again from May through September, alongside Canary Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Sablefish. Chinook Salmon move through from June to August and Coho from May to September, tracking bait along the exposed edges of the hump. Anglers work the rocky pinnacle for Lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or drop whole herring, live greenling, and squid onto the structure. Salmon fishing here centres on trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies over the deeper water, with mooching cut-plug herring a productive alternative for Chinook.
