Alert Rock is an outer-exposed pinnacle off Port McNeill, British Columbia, rising through rocky bottom that fishes from the surface down to about 90 feet. The exposed rock draws Chinook Salmon from May through August and Coho Salmon from May through September, both worked most effectively by trolling whole herring, spoons, or flashers across the structure. Lingcod hold tight to the pinnacle with peaks in late winter and again from June into September, and they respond to metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs dropped along the rock. Copper and Black Rockfish stack up over the same terrain through summer, taking metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits close to the bottom. Pacific Halibut move through from May to August and are targeted by drift jigging leadhead jigs and salmon belly over the deeper edges of the pinnacle.
