About Finnerty Islands

The Finnerty Islands sit in an outer-exposed stretch off Qualicum Beach in DFO subarea 16-21, where a rocky drop-off falls through depths of 65 to 275 feet. Chinook Salmon peak here from July through September, while Coho Salmon run across a longer window from June through October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies along the structure. The rock bottom holds Lingcod, strongest from January through March and worked with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs down along the drop. Black Rockfish concentrate over the same broken rock from April through September and respond to jigging with metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits. Quillback Rockfish and Pacific Cod round out the bottom species available across the deeper edges of the drop-off.
