Higgins Island sits off Qualicum Beach in British Columbia, an outer-exposed rock drop-off where the bottom falls from 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon peak here from July through September and Coho Salmon run from June into October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies along the edge of the structure. Pacific Halibut hold on the deeper rock from March through August, worked with drift fishing over whole herring, salmon bellies, or large jigs. Lingcod concentrate on the drop-off from January through March and respond to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits, while Black Rockfish stack up from April through September and take leadhead jigs and soft plastic swimbaits. The exposed setting and steep depth range keep this a structure-driven spot where working the transition from rock to open water pays off across most of the year.
