Olsen Island sits off Qualicum Beach on British Columbia's outer coast, where an exposed rock drop-off falls through depths of roughly 330 to 1,310 feet. Chinook Salmon peak from July through September and Coho Salmon run from June into October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies along the structure. The deep rock holds Lingcod through their January to March peak and Pacific Halibut from March into August, with jigging metal jigs and swimbaits working the ledges for Lingcod and drift fishing whole herring, octopus, or large jigs covering the halibut ground. Black Rockfish gather over the same rock from April to September and respond to metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits, alongside Copper and Canary Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Spiny Dogfish. Working the shallower rock edges and staged drifts across the drop-off keeps baits in contact with fish holding tight to the structure.
