About Prowse Point

Prowse Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, in DFO subarea 14-3, where the bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here through their July to September peak, while Coho Salmon run from June into October across the same water. Trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies covers the salmon over the drop, and mooching cut-plug herring or jigging metal jigs works the same structure when fish sit deeper. Lingcod concentrate on the rock from January through March and respond to metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked close to the bottom, with whole herring or squid as a bait alternative. Canary Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Leopard Shark share the deeper rocky ground along this edge.
