About Jenkins Island

Jenkins Island is an outer-exposed rocky pinnacle in DFO subarea 14-3 off Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, rising through depths of 40 to 120 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from January through March, along with Black Rockfish that concentrate from April through September and a steady presence of Blue Rockfish, Pacific Cod, Sablefish, and Spiny Dogfish. Lingcod and Black Rockfish both respond to jigging with metal jigs and leadhead jigs worked close to the rock, while soft plastic swimbaits cover the same pinnacle terrain. Chinook Salmon move through from July to September and Coho from June to October, both taken by trolling trolling spoons or hootchies across the exposed edges. The rock relief and steep depth range make this a spot where holding position over the pinnacle matters more than covering water.
