Elf Shoal is a rocky pinnacle off Sayward, British Columbia, rising through an outer, exposed stretch of water where depths run 45 to 130 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon from May through August and Coho Salmon from June into October, with trolling spoons, hootchies, and anchovy working the salmon over the shoal. Lingcod concentrate around the rock through the late winter into spring and again in late summer, taking metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs dropped tight to the pinnacle. Pacific Halibut move across the deeper margins from April through August and respond to drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastic swimbaits. Black Rockfish school over the same rock from June to September, hitting metal jigs and soft plastics along with Canary Rockfish and Pacific Cod.
