McKay Reef is an outer-exposed rock pinnacle off Tofino, British Columbia, rising through depths of 40 to 120 feet where current-swept structure concentrates fish. Lingcod and Chinook Salmon peak here from May through August, while Pacific Halibut runs strongest March through June and Coho Salmon holds from June into October. The reef also supports Rougheye, Blackgill, and Darkblotched Rockfish across its rock ledges. Anglers work the pinnacle with metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits for Lingcod, and drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastics over the deeper rock for Halibut. Trolling anchovy, herring, and hootchies through the water column takes both Chinook and Coho as they move past the exposed structure.
