Heron Rock is an outer-exposed pinnacle off Winter Harbour, British Columbia, where rock structure rises through depths of 5 to 80 feet. The exposed rock and steep relief hold Chinook Salmon from April through August and Coho Salmon from May through September, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hoochies, and spoons over the pinnacle's edges. Lingcod work the rock through two windows, February to April and June to August, responding to metal jigs, leadhead jigs with soft plastics, and swimbaits dropped along the structure. Pacific Halibut move onto the surrounding bottom from May through August, where drift jigging with leadhead jigs and swimbaits covers the shallower flats around the pinnacle. Canary Rockfish, Pacific Cod, Sablefish, and Giant Pacific Octopus round out the bottom-dwelling species that hold on and near the rock.
