McAllister Islet sits off Winter Harbour on the outer, exposed coast of British Columbia, where a rock drop-off falls from 40 to 235 feet. Pacific Halibut hold along the deeper edges of this structure and peak from May through August, worked with drift jigging using leadhead jigs, swimbaits, or metal jigs, or with bottom bait fishing over the rock. Lingcod stack on the shallower rock through two windows, February to April and June to August, and respond to jigging with metal jigs and leadhead jigs rigged with soft plastics. Chinook Salmon run April through August and Coho Salmon build from May into September, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hoochies, and spoons across the exposed water above the drop. The mixed rockfish, Sablefish, and Pacific Cod that share this bottom round out the deep-water fishery along the same steep rock.
