About Gull Rock
Gull Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Bodega Bay, California, where the bottom falls away steeply through depths of 330 to 1310 feet. The structure holds a dense rockfish population alongside Black Rockfish, Blue Rockfish, Copper Rockfish, Cabezon, and Kelp Greenling, with Lingcod as the standout target from July through February. Anglers work the rock with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs for Lingcod, supplementing with live rockfish or squid when the bite favors bait over hardware. Chinook Salmon move through from April to August and respond to trolled anchovies, spoons, and hoochies over the deeper water, while California Halibut in the same spring-to-summer window come to drifted live anchovies and shiner perch. The exposed position and rock-and-drop terrain reward precise depth control across the full water column.
