About Mile Rocks
Mile Rocks is an outer, exposed rock pinnacle off Bodega Bay, California, rising through waters that run 20 to 40 feet deep. The structure holds Chinook Salmon at their peak from April through August and Coho Salmon from June into November, while Lingcod stack up over the rock from July through February. Rockfish work the pinnacle from May through October, and Pacific Halibut move through from April into September, sharing the grounds with Blue Shark, Pacific Bonito, and squid. Anglers troll anchovies, spoons, hoochies, and flashers for both salmon runs, and switch to mooching herring or anchovies when fish hold tight to the structure. Over the rock itself, jigging metal jigs and swimbaits or dropping live bait takes Lingcod, while bait fishing squid, shrimp flies, and cut bait works the Rockfish holding along the pinnacle.
