About Salt Point
Salt Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Bodega Bay, California, where the bottom falls through 260 to 660 feet of water. The structure holds a mix of rockfish—blue, black, and copper—alongside cabezon, kelp greenling, and California sheephead, with lingcod peaking from July through February. Chinook salmon move through between April and August, while coho fishing runs from June into November. Anglers target lingcod over the rock with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, or work live rockfish and squid across the drop-off. For salmon, trolling anchovies, spoons, hoochies, and flashers covers the water column, and mooching anchovies or herring on banana weights works the same fish over this exposed structure.
