About False Klamath Rock
False Klamath Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Crescent City, California, where the bottom falls through 25 to 45 feet of water. Chinook Salmon move through the area with a peak from April to September, joined by Coho Salmon and Pacific Halibut across the warmer months. Lingcod hold along the rock structure with peak windows in February and March and again from August to October, sharing the reef with Canary Rockfish, Copper Rockfish, and California Scorpionfish. Trolling anchovies, herring, spoons, or hoochies covers the salmon through the water column, while mooching whole anchovies or cut herring works the same range. For Lingcod, jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs over the rock is the primary approach, with live rockfish, sanddabs, or squid on the bottom as a supporting tactic.
