About False Klamath Rock Hump

The False Klamath Rock Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising off the outer, exposed coast near Crescent City, California, holding water 30 to 50 feet deep. The structure concentrates a mix of rockfish and predators, with Canary Rockfish, Bocaccio Rockfish, and Lingcod all working the rock, plus Pacific Halibut, Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, and Shortfin Mako Shark moving through. Lingcod fishing peaks February through March and again August through October, while Chinook Salmon runs strongest from April into September. Over the pinnacle, jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs draws Lingcod off the rock, and live bait such as rockfish, sanddabs, or squid works the same ground when the fish sit tight to structure. For Chinook Salmon, trolling anchovies, herring, spoons, or hoochies covers the water around the hump, with mooching whole anchovies or cut herring an alternative when fish stack up.
