About Round Rock
Round Rock is a rocky drop-off off Crescent City, California, where the bottom falls through 25 to 50 feet of mid-exposure water. Chinook Salmon run here from April through September, with Coho Salmon and Pacific Halibut adding to the mix, while Rockfish aggregate over the structure from May through September. Lingcod hold on the rocks with peaks in February through March and again from August through October, and Pacific Cod move in from November through January. Anglers troll anchovies, herring, spoons, or hoochies for Chinook and switch to mooching whole anchovies or cut herring along the same edges. The rock bottom suits jigging metal jigs and swimbaits for Lingcod, while bottom fishing shrimp flies, squid strips, or metal jigs works the drop-off for the rockfish aggregate.
