About Split Rock
Split Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Crescent City, California, where the bottom falls from roughly 60 to 300 feet along hard structure. Chinook Salmon dominate the calendar with a peak from April through September, while Lingcod hold on the rock and turn on from February to March and again from August to October. Black Rockfish work the shallower edges through March and from May to August, and Blue Rockfish overlap them from March to April and June to August. Trolling anchovies, herring, spoons, or hoochies covers the salmon over this deep water, while jigging metal jigs and swimbaits along the drop-off takes Lingcod and Black Rockfish. Blue Rockfish respond to bait fishing with shrimp flies, squid strips, and anchovies worked over the same rocky ground.
