About Point Bonita

Point Bonita sits at the outer edge of San Francisco's coastline, a rock-bottomed drop-off exposed to open ocean swell where depths run from 260 to 660 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from February through March, again from August through October, and once more in December, alongside a mixed aggregate of Rockfish, Cabezon, and California Sheephead. California Halibut move through from April to August, while Chinook Salmon run the outer water from April into September, with Coho Salmon and Blue Shark also present. Anglers working the rock for Lingcod rely on jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, dropping to live sanddabs or squid when the fish hold tight to structure. Chinook are taken by trolling whole anchovy, spoons, and flashers across the deeper drop, and Cabezon come off the bottom on squid, shrimp, and cut bait.
