About CSX Reef-Spot
CSX Reef-Spot is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Destin, Florida, where the structure draws reef fish and pelagics. Greater amberjack peak in April and May and red snapper hold on the reef from April through July, while gray snapper run strongest from May through August and gag grouper peak from October through December alongside resident red grouper. King mackerel patrol the water above the structure from April through October, and slow trolling live cigar minnows, live menhaden, or live blue runners along the reef's edges puts baits in their path. On the bottom, live pinfish and cigar minnows work for red snapper and gag grouper, and live hardtail sent down tight to the structure targets amberjack. Vertical jigging with metal jigs or butterfly jigs covers the water column over the reef when snapper and amberjack rise off the bottom.
