About M/V Monarch Countess Reef
The M/V Monarch Countess Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Destin, Florida, where a sunken vessel creates hard structure that holds reef fish and draws pelagic predators. Red Snapper peak from April through July, and Gray Snapper peak from May through August, with both species responding to bottom fishing with live pinfish, cigar minnows, and cut bait dropped tight to the wreck. Gag Grouper peak from October through December, and Red Grouper also hold on the structure, where anglers target them by bottom fishing with live pinfish, live grunts, and live cigar minnows. Greater Amberjack peak in April and May, taking live hardtail (blue runner) fished near the bottom as well as butterfly jigs worked vertically through the water column. King Mackerel peak from April through October and patrol the water above the reef, where slow trolling live cigar minnows, live menhaden, or live blue runners puts baits in their path.
