About Okaloosa County Reef
Okaloosa County Reef is an artificial reef in the federal Gulf waters off Destin, Florida, where placed structure on the sandy bottom draws reef fish and pelagic predators alike. Red Snapper peak from April through July, Greater Amberjack in April and May, and Gray Snapper from May through August, while King Mackerel hold over the reef from April into October and Gag Grouper peak from October through December alongside resident Red Grouper. Bottom fishing with live pinfish, cigar minnows, or cut bait directly over the structure targets snapper and grouper. Amberjack respond to live hardtail or vertical-jigged butterfly jigs worked through the water column above the reef. Slow trolling live cigar minnows or menhaden along the reef's edges covers the King Mackerel that patrol the area through the warm months.
