About Cape Haze
Cape Haze is an outer, exposed drop-off in the Charlotte Harbor Region of Florida's Gulf state waters off Fort Myers, where mixed bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Sheepshead lead the cool-season lineup from November through March, with Spotted Seatrout peaking in March and April, Common Snook in April through June, Gray Snapper in May through August, and Red Drum in August through October, while Spanish Mackerel round out the species list. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas works the mixed bottom along the drop-off for Sheepshead, and jigheads tipped with shrimp give a second option over the same structure. Gray Snapper respond to bottom fishing with live pilchards, cut bait, or squid, and Red Drum and Common Snook take live pilchards and live pinfish through their summer and fall windows.
